ROLL TIDE

It is increasingly clear that a revolution will take place on November 2, 2010.  At first, I was hoping for the Republicans to win back the House.  Then I was hoping they would win back control of the Senate.  Both of those events are now very likely with the takeover of the House almost certain.  The White House is shock.

http://www.commentarymagazine.com/blogs/index.php/wehner/338666

I have been checking the polls and unless they are totally wrong things are even worse than is being reported.   Here is the latest on the House races from Real Clear Poliitics:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2010/house/2010_elections_house_map.html

But this is extremely misleading.    The problem with this analysis is that there are no longer 148 “safe” Democratic seats.  That analysis was based on prior records of incumbent Democrats winning re-election, not based on current polling data.  Democrats are behind in about 48 of those “safe” districts.

What this means is that there are between 80 and 100 seats where Democrats probably win regardless of national trends.  These are districts where there is a minority Democratic congressional representative in a highly ethnic district.  Those people are extremely unlikely to lose.  (Think Maxime Waters) There are also some representatives from very liberal non-ethnic districts which will also likely continue to be Democratic.  (Think Nancy Pelosi)  But the rest of them are definitely in play and right now the Democrats are trailing everywhere!

We could, and I emphasize the word “could” see the Republicans end up with more than 300 seats in the House.

Following is the latest from the Senate:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2010/senate/2010_elections_senate_map.html

The odds are looking better that Republicans retake control of the Senate.   The bottom line is that only 37 Senators are up for re-election.  Of that number, 19 are Democrats and 18 are Republicans.  Most of the projections that have Democrats retaining control of the Senate require Barbara Boxer winning re-election in California.  If she loses in California, it will be very hard for Democrats to retain control of the Senate.

Here is the shocking news.  There are NO safe Senate seats this year.

Here is the list of Democrats up for re-election in 2010:

Even now Democrats are “expecting” to lose 8 Senate seats.  This is the projection by the die-hard optimists.  It is possible that the Democrats will lose every current seat, because there is a nationwide throw the bums out attitude.  Just look at the above list.  None of these people are guaranteed re-election.  The Republicans would have to win every Republican seat and 17 Democratic seats to get a 60 vote majority.  While that is far from predictable, it is not outside the realm of possibility.

Finally, recall that 2010 is a census year.  That means that Republicans would be in charge of making redistricting decisions.  This election could literally remove Democrats from power for an entire generation.

The odds increase daily, primarily because of the continued arrogance and incompetence of this administration.  The Spanish Fly venture by Michelle Obama was a huge mistake that will cost Democrats big time this fall.  Unless sometime big happens soon, this is going to be a wild ride.

(Democrats are beyond desperate:  Re-read Wag the Donkey.  Remember there is nothing more dangerous than a cornered animal.  No party in recent history has been more cornered than the Democratic Party this year.)

PIECES OF 8

The decision by the federal judge in San Francisco to declare proposition 8 unconstitutional was a gift, to Republicans.  This decision may just push the entire Democratic Party over the edge with regard to the November election.  The Democrats were already in deep yogurt and the ethics trials of Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters made things worse.

Now throw in this ruling and you have a perfect political storm.  The vast majority of Americans do not want gay marriage.  It has been voted down every time it was put on a ballot, anytime, anywhere.  People don’t want gay marriage and they specifically don’t want gay marriage imposed on them by a gay activist judge after they voted against it, TWICE!  There is no worse example of judicial activism than the overturn of a constitutional amendment because the judge thinks it is unconstitutional.  This is absurd and no amount of spin is going to make it go away.  The very last thing Democrats want to talk about, other than the economy, and illegal immigration is gay marriage.  (Actually, what would you want to talk about if you were a Democrat up for re-election?   I know, blame Bush!!!)

Right now Elena Kagan appears to be on her way to the Supreme Court, but don’t be surprised if this doesn’t even derail that.  Democratic Senators up for re-election this fall should think really hard before voting to confirm this left wing radical to a permanent position on the Supreme Court.  Republicans would be wise to find a way to delay the vote until after the August recess.   If they manage to delay the vote, she may never be confirmed.  If she is confirmed, the RINO Republicans and Senators pretending to be conservatives who voted for this nomination will pay a heavy price at the polls the next time they face the electorate.

If you think the polls for Democrats seeking re-election are bad now, just wait a couple of weeks.  The wind is blowing at the Republicans back and by the end of Labor Day weekend Democrats will be in full retreat.  Enjoy the ride!

POINT OF VIEW?

The following picture is obviously doctored and is extremely unflattering to the President of the United States.  It is also hysterical, so I couldn’t resist posting it:

I got this from radiopatriot.wordpress.com.  I am not sure of the original source.

Sarah Palin said Obama lacked the cojones to take on illegal immigration.  Rush Limbaugh said Obama added a dose of must needed estrogen to the View.  Here is the point:  the reasons these are so funny is that they strike a nerve.  Let’s face it, Obama is a girly man.  He went to the view, because that is where he felt comfortable.

QUE SHERROD SHERROD

Que Sera Sera.  What ever will be, will be.  The future not ours to see, Que Sera Sera.

It turns out that Shirley Sherrod is just a little different than the wonderful, caring person, maliciously smeared by the vast right wing conspiracy.

http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/07/real_sherrod_story_still_untol.html

The liberal left was so busy slamming Fox News for smearing this innocent dove that they failed to notice that Obama has already fired her before Fox even mentioned her.  Of course that did not stop Howard Dean from lying about it, but what’s new there?

It turns out that if you listen to her whole speech, that she really is a racist.  There are a lot of comments about us mean ole white folks.  But it gets worse, much worse.  If this article is accurate, she may have been running a massive scheme to give millions of dollars in highly questionable payments to minority (think black) farmers.  She was so good at this that she appears to have gotten payments for 86,000 black farmers.  This was a really good accomplishment, because there only are about 40,000 black farmers in the entire country.  What makes this really special is that she appears to have gotten about $13 million for herself.  Nice work!

She is now thinking of suing Andrew Breitbart for smearing her with the video showing her saying what she said.  I hope she does, because that would make this story impossible to ignore.  Sadly she has probably already been told to sit down and shut up and hope no one notices.

If this story hits the main stream media the results will be devastating for the Obama administration, the Clinton administration and the liberal left.  For that reason alone, it is hard to imagine them actually reporting on this.  But, their ratings are in the tank and money is money.  Que sera sera.

OIL VEY!

After months of listening to Obama pontificate about the worst environmental disaster in the history of mankind, it turns out the oil just may be gone.   When you think about it, the damage did seem to be limited to a relatively small area of Louisiana.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ynews_excl/ynews_excl_sc3270

My own antenna was a little late on this one.  Anderson Cooper had a real expert on his show shortly after the leak began.  This guy calmly explained that this was no big deal, that the dispersants were working well and that the bacteria would gear up and eat it all with no major problems.  He said the Gulf of Mexico is a really big place and it could absorb a lot of oil without much impact.  Of course Anderson Cooper was hoping for doom and gloom, so this guy was quickly shoved aside and ignored.  It turns out he was one of the few people who understood the problem from the start.   I wish I had paid more attention.

I should have noticed that the media coverage was following the same pattern.  A couple of nice gory pictures of pelicans slimed from head to toe creating the impression that the world was coming to an end.  In hindsight, it seems pretty obvious that we were seeing the same pictures over and over and over again and listening to the same malcontents exploit the opportunity to bitch on national TV.   I should have known better.   After all, this is the same group of clowns who portrayed Katrina as the worst emergency response effort in history, while ignoring what just may have been the best mass rescue effort in history.  But it was so much fund watch Obama step on his gonads that I failed to notice that there appeared to be no there, there.

Everyone, and I mean everyone, was hoping for a real disaster.  Republicans wanted this to be bad so that it would prove that Obama wasn’t up to the job.  They got their wish.  Obama botched this from day one.  Now, after he has declared this to be the worst environmental disaster in the history of mankind, it turns out we just get lightly oiled fish for supper.  Democrats wanted this to be a real disaster so they could ban all oil drilling and force us to buy those handy dandy Chevy Volts for a cool $41k.  Just because the car only has a range of about 40 miles doesn’t mean it’s not a great deal!  The media wanted a disaster because their ratings were in the tank.  Even the people in Louisiana wanted a big disaster, because big disasters often result in big payouts.  The most pissed people in America are all those attorneys who were licking their chops at all those big claims.

In the end, it appears that BP got it pretty right from the start.  If the Obama administration hadn’t intervened and stopped BP from using those nasty dispersants, there might have been very little environmental damage at all:

I should have known better.  I mean seriously, when has Obama gotten anything right?   Exactly.

WAG THE DONKEY

Normally, the shortest route to the truth is to just assume the exact opposite of anything said by Ahmadinejad.  But, this time, I think he is right.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100727/wl_nm/us_iran_ahmadinejad_attack

Predictions are always risky, but I will make one.  I believe that Barrack Obama will seriously consider ordering an attack on Iran, by combined U.S. and Israeli forces on or about October 29, 2010.  Then there will be a public announcement and a call to national unity, with Obama surrounded by Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.  The, not so subliminal, message will be that it would be unthinkable for a change of leadership during such a major crisis.

There is precedence for Democrats making these types of decisions to solve political problems.   LBJ ordered the unilateral cessation of bombing over North Vietnam on October 31, 1968.  At that time it was becoming obvious that the North Vietnamese were on the ropes and ready to quit.  I believe that LBJ did this as a last ditch desperate effort to get Hubert Humphrey elected President.

Bill Clinton did this twice.  First, when he ordered a 4 day bombing campaign against Iraq on December 14, 1998, just before the start of his impeachment hearing in the House.  Predictably some Democratic supporters even suggested “postponing or cancelling the hearing” because of the national emergency.  There was nothing unique about December 1998, with regard to Iraq, other than Clinton’s political problems.  The timing of this attack was very convenient for Clinton.  I still remember when even Ted Koppel noticed the convenience of the timing, but said he would not ask any further questions because that would be “unthinkable.”

Second, after Clinton was acquitted in February, he launched the air attack on Serbia in March of 1999.  Regardless of what anyone thinks about who is right or wrong in the Balkans, no one has ever made a case that this was a threat to our national security.  Milosevic was a lot of things, but a threat to the U.S. was not on the list.   Clinton never even tried to get UN approval and he also did not bother discussing this with congress.  The “war” in the Balkans was another convenient distraction for a wounded President.

Obama faces a complete political disaster in November.  If something doesn’t happen, Republicans will definitely take over the House and may take over the Senate.  Obama knows that if this happens, he will immediately become a weakened lame duck President.  He may also literally fear being impeached.   Desperate times call for desperate measures.   The economy sucks.  Health Care reform is a disaster.  The stimulus is not working.  The financial reform bill isn’t working either.  Obama MUST do SOMETHING.  Nothing is working out domestically, so what about overseas?   But what are the options?  Afghanistan?…no…not going that well.  North Korea?  no…they already have a nuclear weapon.  Hmm.  Iran.  “That’s it, Iran.  Everyone hates Iran.  Even the Republicans will have to back me if I attack Iran!”   Therefore, I predict that the Obama administration is seriously considering an attack on Iran.  Just imagine, it’s easy if you try.  On the eve of the election President Obama will go on national television to announce an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities and call for national unity during this time of crisis.  He will give the speech from the White House, surrounded by Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.  They may even sing God Bless America again.  I feel warm and fuzzy all over

I recall when Richard Little did an impression of LBJ after his famous speech where he announced he would not run for re-election.  LBJ (Little) said:  “I come here tonight, because I have no place else to go.”   Exactly.

POLITICAL SUICIDE

Vice President Joseph Biden has had two operations for brain aneurysms:

http://www.nytimes.com/1988/05/04/us/biden-resting-after-surgery-for-second-brain-aneurysm.html

There are more and more signs of a serious mental problem.  Following are his observations on the economy and the election.  Of course this is the same guy who has been talking about the SUMMER OF RECOVERY:

http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/110535-biden-the-heavy-lifting-is-over

“We stabilized the financial system,” Biden said. We were on the brink of a depression … We avoided a total economic meltdown,” he said. “There are 3 million [more] Americans working today than there were before we took office.

“Barack and I are realists,” the vice president added. “Government is not the answer. But we also know we can plant seeds. These seeds that have been planted have generated whole new industries.”

With this kind of leadership, the Democratic Party is committing suicide.  The bottom line is that these guys are delusional.  Frankly if I was interviewing Biden and he said something this dumb my biggest challenge would be to avoid laughing out loud.

Democrats are absolutely panicked.  They recently spent millions of dollars purchasing ad space for congressional district races.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0710/40127.html

That is a sign of absolute desperation.   Virtually all of this money is spent defending Democratic seats considered by Democrats to be highly vulnerable.  No money was spent trying to remove Republicans and very little money was spent on open seats.  There is only one word to describe this decision.  PANIC!

BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID!

According to this article from Investor’s Business Daily, the new financial regulations included setting up the Office of National Insurance:

http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnalysis/Article/540854/201007191905/Insurers-Set-Up-For-Next-Affordable-Crisis.aspx

This office “shall have the authority to monitor the extent to which traditionally underserved communities and consumers, minorities, and low- and moderate-income persons have access to affordable insurance products regarding all lines of insurance, except health insurance.”

If the Obama administration is successful in nationalizing insurance regulation, particularly with a goal of social justice, it could set off an economic disaster that will make the meltdown of 2008 look good by comparison.  During the Great Depression, the insurance industry did much better than the rest of the financial markets.  To protect the economy, in 1933 the Glass-Steagall Act restricted the ability of banks to get involved in risky investments; specifically, it prevented banks from going into the insurance business.

http://topics.nytimes.com/topics/reference/timestopics/subjects/g/glass_steagall_act_1933/index.html

The act worked well for 66 years.  But, banks were desperate to get a piece of what they considered to be the lucrative insurance industry, and in 1995 they gained a new powerful advocate in Robert Rubin, Treasury Secretary for the Clinton Administration. Robert Rubin was viewed with awe by the main stream media as a financial genius.  He is the one who proposed repealing Glass-Steagall because modern day banks were so much more sophisticated than the banks during the depression era. Those depression era financial restrictions were so yesterday.  In 1999, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act repealed Glass-Steagall and just may have set off the entire financial meltdown we have seen over the last two years.

http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Gramm-Leach-Bliley_Act

Shortly after he left the White House, Robert Rubin went to Citigroup, as their senior financial spokesman,  for a nice $15 million per year.  He brilliantly helped them take advantage of this great legislation to get into lots of exciting new investment opportunities, including the insurance business.  It was a disaster.  Ultimately, Citigroup was spared insolvency only after a $45 billion federal bailout.  Actually, if the following article is accurate, the true cost to tax payers is much higher than that:

http://www.thenewamerican.com/index.php/usnews/politics/3225-citigroup-bailout-retrospective

During the hearings in front of congress explaining this mess, Rubin was quoted as saying:

Almost all of us involved in the financial system, including financial firms, regulators, ratings agencies, analysts and commentators missed the powerful combination of forces at work and the serious possibility of a massive crisis.”

Duh, ya think?  Actually, a lot of people were warned about this, but no one was listening.

Today, very few people in the financial industry are interested in what Robert Rubin has to say, except for one place; the White House.  He is one of the people helping Timothy Geithner make all these great decisions, including the new and exciting Financial Reform Legislation.

The bottom line is this.  If this wonderful new government agency discovers that minorities and lower-income communities are paying more for insurance than, say…suburban white folks, they are going to try and fix the problem.  What this means is insurance companies will be required to offer coverage to people regardless of loss experience and the rest of us are going to be paying higher premiums as a result.

Less you think this to be fantasy, Californians are already paying more than necessary for their automobile insurance today because of this kind of thinking.  Proposition 103 was passed in 1988.  This prevented insurance companies from adjusting insurance rates based on zip codes.  The insurance industry fought this tooth and nail, because they thought it was unfairly discriminatory and definitely not a good idea.  But, after prodding by the ever brilliant John Garamendi, the courts finally ordered the insurance industry to implement this law in 2005.  It took the industry about five years to even figure out how to do it.  This year, it has happened and if it hasn’t hit your pocketbook yet, it certainly will in the near future.  For those of you interested in more details on how you are now subsidizing drivers in L.A., the following article does a good job of explaining the situation:

http://cainsurancesolutions4u.blogspot.com/2010/02/rural-californians-get-ready-to-pay-for.html

This probably already has your blood curdling, but that is not the major problem.  It is bad enough to pay too much for insurance, but it is even worse if idiotic regulation causes insurance companies to go insolvent.  The Obama administration does not seem to grasp the concept that profits are really necessary for companies to stay in business.  With the insurance industry, it is not just profitability, but solvency.  If the insurance industry melted down like the banks, the results would be even more catastrophic.  No one would ever be able to borrow money for a car, or a boat or a home or anything else without insurance.  No bank would loan the money without the security of an insurance policy protecting the collateral.

Just in case anything thinks I am over exaggerating the problem, I refer you to the following article:

http://www.kaiserhealthnews.org/Daily-Reports/2010/July/22/Consumers-Union-Analysis.aspx

Now the same group of clowns who decided banks were too conservative want to help the health insurance industry do similar financial planning.  I was involved in a health care 501c9 trust where the managers decided they had too much surplus, so they gave a refund to participants. Several contacts from the health insurance industry warned me not to do that.  So, I met with senior management and literally begged them to not deplete the surplus.  They not only did not listen, I was criticized for daring to question their superior wisdom.  Three months later there was an adverse development in loss experience and the remaining surplus was all gone.  The trust literally had to borrow money to pay claims.  The same people who had criticized me earlier now were begging me for a plan of action to deal with the financial disaster they created.   We were able to fix it, but it took about five years to completely repair the damage that had been done in less than three months.   This was one small trust.  Making this kind of mistake with a major health insurance carrier would be beyond catastrophic.

There is only one good piece of news.  These guys are not that sharp and their world is falling down around their heads.  Even Democrats are starting to talk about extending those worthless Bush tax cuts.  As Lincoln said:

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.

Right now, they aren’t fooling anyone.  Here is your therapy session.  Just keep repeating the same phrase over and over and over again:

I CAN SEE NOVEMBER FROM MY HOUSE!

I CAN SEE NOVEMBER FROM MY HOUSE!

There!  Feel better?

This could be our last chance.

RED SPY IN THE MORNING (PART 2)

Earlier I observed that the speed with which the Obama administration moved to get the 10 Russian spies out of town was suspicious.  This article provides some very interesting insight with regard to this issue.  I have no means of confirming this information, but if this is true, it is even worse than I thought.

 http://www.aim.org/aim-column/the-russian-agents-obama-and-the-cover-up/

One thing is certain, there is at least a potential that this involves national security issues.  For years the liberal left downplayed the threat of soviet spies in the FDR and Truman administrations.  We paid a terrible price for that mistake.  The Soviet Union was able to develop an atomic bond because of information gained from these spies.  Ironically the spies at that time were focused on stealing the information needed to develop a nuclear bomb.  It appears these spies were focused on getting us to just willingly destroy our nuclear arsenal.  Obama’s own policy in this regard seems to be remarkably consistent with Russian goals, just like some of FDR’s decisions were remarkably similar with Soviet Union goals.  Coincidence?
