SUNDAY NIGHT FOOSBALL

Did you watch the game between the Seahawks and the Cardinals tonight? It was so bad, it became great. This reminds me of when Alex Karras was a commentator on Monday night football. He was watching a similar contest when he said: “I don’t know if we are watching a great defensive struggle or just piss poor offense.” That describes this imitation game perfectly. I would throw in an assist to the referees. Every time either team seemed to make a big play, the referees called holding, on someone. Regardless of the reason, neither team seemed capable of moving the ball. Arizona kicked one field goal and had another one blocked. Seattle seemed on the verge of losing 3 – 0, when they blocked an Arizona punt. The result was that Seattle made a field goal and the game was tied.

The overtime was even worse. Both teams miraculous drove down field, a little, and both made field goals. Interestingly there were no holding calls in overtime. Did the plays suddenly learn how to block or did the referees suddenly develop vision problems. It boggles the mind. In any event both teams kicked field goals. It was tied again. This turned out to be just the start of the theatre of the absurd. Both teams missed short field goals and the game end up in a 6 – 6 tie.

Just when you thought maximum harm to the NFL was done by losing quarterback Colin Kaepernick wearing a Black Panther tee shirt to the postgame press conference while explaining why he was so pathetic, Seattle and Arizona put on this dud.

I think that the NFL has become a metaphor for this election. It has become a scoreless tie where people are fed up with both teams. Once again we can give an assist to the officials (political polls and professional pundits). If you believe ABC, then Hillary is up by 15 and Donald has zero chance. Of course most people thought that when Arizona was lined up on the one yard line to kick a field go, Seattle had none chance. Then there is the IBD poll that shows Trump slightly ahead. Are you kidding me? Somebody is drinking the happy juice here. We just know that both of these polls can’t possibly be right. It is interesting to note that WikiLeaks recently revealed e-mails where Democrats were planning on colluding with pollsters to make Hillary look good by oversampling Democrats. The ABC poll had 9% more Democrats. This makes sense to liberals, because they believe a majority of smart people are liberal Democrats, so they only their opinion matters.

It is crystal clear that this campaign with stagger to the finish line and one of the two candidates, against all odds, will lose to the other. It boggles the mind, but we could conceivably end up in a tie, that will end up being decided by an evenly split Supreme Court. The only thing certain is that everyone, and I do mean everyone, will be sick and tired of the entire process. Perhaps next time we should just hold a coin toss to determine the winner. Just make sure it isn’t one of the alleged fake coins used by Hillary to win the Iowa caucuses.
