NUMBERS

According to Fox News, if the election was held today, and the current polls are accurate, then Republicans would win control of the Senate by a healthy margin.  Republicans would end up with 53 seats and Democrats would end up with 47 seats.  What is shocking is that it is possible that Republicans will do even better than that.  For example if Republicans were to pick up three more seats, which is certainly possible, they would end up with 56 seats and Democrats would have 44 seats.  That result would be considered a mandate by both parties for significant change.  Some of those conservative Democrats might just join with Republicans at least with regard to important issues.  Currently no Senate Democrat in his right mind would cross swords with Harry Reid.  But if Republicans take control of the Senate, Harry Reid will be reduced to a loud noise in the background.  That will not only impact Republicans, it will impact Democrats.  The significance of Republicans taking back control of the Senate cannot be overstated.

At the same time Senate Democrats are desperately trying to distance themselves from Obama, he is making the election all about him.  Just recently Obama said that those Democrats trying to avoid him are secretly supporting his policies.

Maybe Obama thought that only the five remaining devoted followers would hear what he said to Al Sharpton:

“Well, look, here’s the bottom line, we’ve got a tough map.  A lot of states that are contested this time are states that I didn’t win.  And so some of the candidates there, you know, it is difficult for them to have me in the state because the Republicans will use that to try to fan Republican turn-out.  The bottom line is, though, that these are all folks who vote with me.  They have supported my agenda in Congress. “…So, this isn’t about my feelings being hurt.  These are folks who are strong allies and supporters of me.”

Perhaps Obama secretly thinks he is still wildly popular. When you consider the other issues where he is oblivious to the obvious this is entirely possible.  Regardless of why he said it, it is the gift that keeps on giving.  By all accounts Obama is absolutely toxic in this election and he just gave Republicans the ultimate campaign video clip.  That sound you hear is Democratic strategists all over the country throwing up.  If Democrats get pummeled across the board on November 4th they will blame Obama.

I guess when you think about it, why would any expect Obama to do better at fighting Democrats than he has done fighting ISIS?
