Imagine listening to over 15 members of the “clergy,” some of which did not appear to use English, drone on, and on, and on. This was interspersed with musical performances equally difficult to understand accompanied by an enormous and extremely loud pipe organ.
If the intent were to encourage prayer, it worked. There was a camera focused on Donald Trump, Melanie Trump, J.D Vance, Usha Vance, and the members of the Trump family. You could see the pain in their eyes as they tried to endure the agony without showing any outward signs of boredom or disrespect. It was so bad I could not resist laughing.
Then Bishop Mariann Budde felt the need to give a 15-minute sermon lecturing Trump about the urgent need to cater to the needs of the LGBTQ community and illegal aliens:
“There are gay, lesbian and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives.”
Nice. Another liberal Democrat preaching the need for unity by focusing solely on their delusional world view, incapable of even considering the possibility of error.
The service droned on for about 1 hour and 50 minutes, then it took another ten minutes or so for all the clergy and the musical performers to slow march toward the exit before Trump was finally mercified allowed to escape.
This reminded me of when some “friends” decided we should all go to an opera. There were four couples involved. It was just awful. My wife and I sat there, trying to endure, hoping to not offend. Then I noticed the other couples were all equally impressed, desperately trying to suppress the giggles. This was so bad that I didn’t realize they were singing in English until after the intermission.
I know some people probably thought this was wonderful, a truly inspirational prayer service for the country. As for me, after watching the Trump and J.D. Vance families endure it redefined what it means to be a “prayer warrior.”
