There is an old saying: \u201cit is better to stay silent and have people think you are stupid than to open your mouth and prove it.\u201d<\/em><\/strong> Comey made a huge mistake by testifying\u00a0publicly\u00a0under oath today and he is likely to pay a very high price for this mistake.<\/p>\n

Democrats will interpret this meeting as proof Trump obstructed justice. The opposite is true.\u00a0 If anything, this exonerated Trump. Republicans, sadly, will wait to see which way the wind is blowing before they make up their minds.\u00a0 In reality this was nothing more and nothing less than a public \u201coutgassing\u201d<\/strong> by a pissed off former employee.<\/p>\n

The main stream media missed the entire point.\u00a0 They thought that Trump was going to respond by becoming defensive because Comey said Trump lied.\u00a0 However, the only lie, according to Comey, was when Trump criticized Comey\u2019s reputation at the FBI. Comey offered zero proof that anything Trump said was a lie, other than the obvious fact that Comey was insulted.<\/p>\n

Trump sent out his attorney, Marc Kasowitz and it was the opposite of defensive.<\/p>\n

He pointed out, correctly that Comey admitted that not only did Trump not impede the investigation, he said \u201cit would be good to find out in that investigation if there were some satellite associates of his who did something wrong.\u201d<\/em><\/strong> This is an admission under oath that Trump not only did not impede the investigation, he encouraged it.<\/p>\n

Comey also admitted that he did tell Trump that he was not under investigation on at least three occasions and Comey knows of no current investigation of Trump.<\/p>\n

But it gets worse. Comey testified to actions taken personally by him that may be a criminal act:<\/p>\n

Today, Mr.\u00a0Comey\u00a0admitted that he\u00a0unilaterally\u00a0and surreptitiously made unauthorized disclosures to the press of privileged communications with the President. \u00a0The leaks of this privileged information began no later than March 2017 when friends of Mr.\u00a0Comey\u00a0have\u00a0stated he disclosed to them\u00a0the conversations he had\u00a0with the President\u00a0during their January 27, 2017 dinner and February 14, 2017 White House meeting. \u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Comey has now turned over his notes to the Special Prosecutor.\u00a0 That is an admission under oath that he considered these to be privileged conversations that should be handled appropriately.\u00a0 He can\u2019t both give his notes to the press and then claim they can only be entrusted to a Special Counsel.<\/em><\/p>\n

It gets even worse,\u00a0\u00a0Kasowitz provided evidence that Comey lied under oath:<\/em><\/p>\n

Today, Mr.\u00a0Comey\u00a0admitted that he leaked\u00a0to friends\u00a0his purported memos of these privileged conversations,\u00a0one of which he testified was classified. \u00a0He also testified that immediately after he was terminated he authorized his friends to leak the contents of these memos to the press in order to \u201cprompt the appointment of a special counsel.\u201d \u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Although Mr.\u00a0Comey\u00a0testified\u00a0he only leaked the memos\u00a0in response to\u00a0a tweet,\u00a0the public record reveals that the New York Times was quoting\u00a0from these memos the day before the referenced tweet, which belies Mr.\u00a0Comey\u2019s\u00a0excuse for this unauthorized disclosure of privileged information and appears\u00a0to\u00a0entirely retaliatory.\u00a0\u00a0We will leave it the appropriate authorities to determine whether this\u00a0leaks should be investigated along with all those others being investigated.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Finally he drove a nail into the Comey coffin:<\/p>\n

In sum, it is now established that there the President was not being investigated for colluding\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0or\u00a0attempting to obstruct that investigation. \u00a0As the Committee pointed out\u00a0today, these important facts for the country to know are virtually the only facts that have not leaked during the\u00a0long\u00a0course of these events. <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Kasowitz made a crucial point.\u00a0 The only thing that wasn\u2019t leaking out of the Russia investigation was the FACT that no one was investigating Donald Trump and he wasn\u2019t obstructing any investigation.\u00a0 CNN may not understand that, but my guess is that the American people will.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t think we will see much of James Comey for some time, because he is about to lawyer up and the first thing any smart legal counsel will do is tell him to shut up.<\/p>\n
