There was a saying in Vietnam used by those of us who experienced something really horrific.\u00a0 Sometimes the pain was literally too much to bear, so we would just turn off our emotions and say \u201cit don\u2019t mean nothin.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0 Obviously, this is a classic example of reverse psychology.\u00a0 By saying \u201cit don\u2019t mean nothin\u201d<\/strong> we actually meant the exact opposite.<\/p>\n

During the Republican debate we saw another opportunity for using this phrase, because in reality the two debates literally \u201cdon\u2019t mean nothin.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0 What on earth do either of this fiasco\u2019s have to do with choosing the next President of the United States?\u00a0 This is insane.\u00a0 Does \u201cwinning\u201d the debate this week mean anything?\u00a0 I don\u2019t think so.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not like somebody boldly stepped forth with a brilliant new vision.\u00a0 That happened during the Lincoln \u2013 Douglas debates when Abraham Lincoln focused the national spotlight on slavery.\u00a0 It is not what happened Wednesday night.\u00a0 This was closer to a poor conceived reality TV show that represents everything but reality.<\/p>\n

Now, after eight years of just plain awful results, we are trying to choose a President by the worst possible method.\u00a0 The typical CNN question was:\u00a0 \u201cDonald Trump said this about you, how would you like to respond.\u201d\u00a0 The response should have been:\u00a0 give me a break.\u00a0 We are not here to trade insults.\u00a0 We are here to choose a President of the United States.\u00a0 If you have any questions about something said by Mr. Trump, ask him about it.\u00a0 The problems we face are too serious to waste time with a meaningless exchange of insults.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The only way to really win such a debate would be to refuse to participate in the verbal food fight.\u00a0 My vote goes for the candidates who didn\u2019t bother wasting time insulting each other.\u00a0 If someone wants to be President, it would be a good start to try acting like one.\u00a0 This process is beyond insane.\u00a0 If we are this stupid, we probably deserve our fate.<\/p>\n
