Rachel Dolezal is a shameless opportunist.\u00a0 She is unworthy of a minute of our attention.\u00a0 However, the reason Rachel Dolezal chose to pretend she was black is significant.\u00a0 As white woman, she sued Howard University for racial discrimination because she is white.\u00a0 She quickly learned that if you want to take advantage of racial discrimination, you have to be black.\u00a0 So she started representing herself as black.\u00a0 Incredibly, she even got appointed as the NAACP Chapter President for Washington State:<\/p>\n

Over the years she has reported\u00a0numerous complaints<\/a> <\/span><\/em><\/strong>with the police of racially motivated harassment and intimidation, though the police have said that none have so far proved credible enough for charges to be brought.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

She clearly wanted the power gained from charges of racism, whether unfounded or not.<\/p>\n

Lesson learned.\u00a0 Would anyone know about Trayvon Martin or Michael Brown if they were white?\u00a0 Irresponsible leaders like Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson have taught an entire generation of black kids the importance of considering themselves victims.<\/p>\n

If you are a victim, failure is never your fault.\u00a0 Therefore you have no responsibility for taking the action necessary to succeed.\u00a0 If you\u2019re caught committing a crime, it\u2019s not your fault because you are black.\u00a0 If you get shot by police, it\u2019s not your fault because you are black.\u00a0 If you flunk out of school, it\u2019s not your fault because you are black.\u00a0 If you can\u2019t seem to find a job, it\u2019s not your fault, because you are black.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t get that promotion it not\u2019s your fault, because you are black.\u00a0 The problem is that when black children believe this, it makes it nearly impossible for them to succeed in life. \u00a0Blaming Whitey may feel good, but it doesn\u2019t do much to end racial discrimination.<\/p>\n

If Tiger Woods believed this, he would never have become a great golfer.\u00a0 If Jackie Robinson believed this he would never have played in the Major Leagues.\u00a0 There have been many examples of black men and women succeeding because they refused to define themselves as victims.\u00a0 These people didn\u2019t succeed because they sought special privileges based on the color of their skin.\u00a0 They would all be offended by even suggesting that.\u00a0 They succeeded by proving to the world that the color of their skin did not matter.<\/p>\n

I have the privilege of listening to Margaret Thatcher give a speech to a small group in Los Angeles.\u00a0 When she was done, she opened the floor for questions.\u00a0 A young professional woman stood up and asked:\u00a0 \u201cHow did it feel to be the first female Prime Minister of Great Britain.\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 The room when silent as Margaret Thatcher just glared at her.\u00a0 The she said something I will never forget:\u00a0 \u201cI was not the female Prime Minister of Great Britain; I was the Prime Minister of Great Britain.\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 The room exploded with applause.\u00a0 Margaret Thatcher didn\u2019t succeed because she was female; it was because she proved herself equal to the task.<\/p>\n

Art Shell was the first black man to coach an NFL team.\u00a0 But the real success did not come when he was hired; it was when he was fired.\u00a0 When the Raiders fired Art Shell the black activists came out swinging.\u00a0 But soon the black assistant coaches in the league spoke up and told people like Jesse Jackson to shut up and go home.\u00a0 They pointed out that if NFL owners were afraid to fire a black coach, they would never hire a black coach in the first place.<\/p>\n

Critics should know by now that unfounded rhetoric damages real efforts to improve minority hiring in sports.\u00a0 If people find it difficult to fire a minority, they will also make it difficult for minorities to get hired in the first place.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

That is the real significance here.\u00a0 We will not have racial equality in this country until the day it no longer makes sense to \u201cGO ON THE DOLEZAL.\u201d<\/p>\n
