During the 2012 Presidential campaign every week there was the latest and greatest \u201cnot Mitt\u201d<\/strong> and Mitt Romney.\u00a0 Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman and even Michele Bachman all were the \u201cnot Mitt<\/strong> at some point.\u00a0 In retrospect it was hard to consider any of them, other than Rick Perry, as a real candidate.\u00a0 Rick Perry, of course, self-destructed with his brain freeze during a debate.\u00a0 In the end we ran out of \u201cnot Mitts\u201d<\/strong> so we got Mitt.\u00a0 Ron Paul was a fringe candidate only capable of sucking enough votes out of the mix to guarantee Barack Obama\u2019s re-election.\u00a0 Election results demonstrated why there was such a desperate search for a better \u201cnot Mitt.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Now that Mitt Romney has taken himself out of the race.\u00a0 I believe he is about to be replaced by \u201cnot Jeb.\u201d<\/strong> The Washington establishment wants a Jeb Bush candidacy.\u00a0 He is perfect.\u00a0 He is not nearly as threatening to liberals and he is guaranteed to lose in a general election.<\/p>\n

It will be very different in 2016.\u00a0 Republicans are going to field some very serious candidates.\u00a0 Ben Carson, Rick Perry, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Scot Walker, Chris Christie, and Mike Huckabee are already running.\u00a0 It is not official yet, but they\u2019re running.\u00a0 There will be more. The worst of this group is better than the best \u201cnot-Mitt\u201d<\/strong> in 2012. Jeb Bush will raise an incredible amount of money, but he will still make an early exit. \u00a0His only real chance is to run out of \u201cnon-Jeb\u201d<\/strong>s and that won\u2019t happen this time.<\/p>\n

At this point it is hard to predict but my money is on \u201cnot-Jeb\u201d<\/strong> running against \u201cnot-Hillary\u201d<\/strong> and there are more good \u201cnot Jeb\u201d<\/strong>s than there are \u201cnot Hillary\u201d<\/strong>s.\u00a0 I guess you could describe this as” to be or \u201cnot\u201d<\/strong> to be.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
