Have any of you ever watched Texas Hold-em Poker.\u00a0 There is always the moment when someone goes all in.\u00a0 Then everyone turns over their cards and they wait, desperately, for the river card.\u00a0 In most cases everything depends on the river card.\u00a0 If you lose, after you went all in, the defeat is total.<\/p>\n
Democrats have gone all in on ObamaCare.\u00a0 Republicans not so much.\u00a0 Republicans will be blamed for the government shut down, but that would hardly be a fatal blow.\u00a0 They did this in 1995 and they still maintained control of both the House and the Senate at the next election.\u00a0 But Democrats are risking everything on ObamaCare.\u00a0 Shutting down the government is one thing.\u00a0 Shutting it down so you can arrogantly inflict a major disaster on the American people is something else.<\/p>\n
We will soon know.\u00a0 If the administration had half a brain they would have tried out ObamaCare in a couple of small states to figure out how it worked.\u00a0 That would have been the smart thing to do.\u00a0 But instead the administration decided to implement ObamaCare all over the country at once.\u00a0 When the clock struck midnight Monday night, ObamaCare became reality.<\/p>\n
Almost immediately there was a mad rush to check it out.\u00a0 Most people appear to have gotten a busy signal.\u00a0 Millions of people have been checking out the ObamaCare website.\u00a0 If they like what they find, Democrats have just run the table.\u00a0 If they hate what they find, Democrats just doubled down on disaster.<\/p>\n
So how will we know?\u00a0 The answer is\u00a0easy.\u00a0 It all depends on price.\u00a0 \u00a0ObamaCare is either a great deal or it isn\u2019t.\u00a0 At least some people are expecting to get free health care.\u00a0 They are going to be bitterly disappointed to learn they are expected to pay for this.\u00a0 Others will be hoping to buy high quality health insurance at great savings.\u00a0 So far, that doesn\u2019t seem to be happening.\u00a0 Instead people are reportedly shocked by the high premiums\u00a0and\u00a0the high deductibles.\u00a0 \u00a0This could be a case of nationwide sticker shock.<\/p>\n
What makes this worse is that the highest costs are for people between 19 and 34.\u00a0 The Obama administration desperately needs a high percentage of people in this demographic to participate.\u00a0 Yet ObamaCare appears to be least attractive to exactly this group.\u00a0 If this age group doesn\u2019t enroll, ObamaCare is financially insolvent from day one.<\/p>\n
So who will like ObamaCare?\u00a0 That is\u00a0easy.\u00a0 It will be very attractive to people who have no money, because they will get it for free.\u00a0 It will also be attractive to people who have pre-existing conditions and cannot buy coverage anywhere else.\u00a0 In the health insurance industry, they call this adverse selection.\u00a0 If this happens it will put ObamaCare financing into an irreversible death spiral.\u00a0 The higher they raise premiums, the more adverse selection.\u00a0 Eventually you can’t possibly charge enough.<\/p>\n
I think ObamaCare is going to be a nationwide disaster\u00a0impossible to ignore.\u00a0 If that is true, Republicans will go from villains for shutting down the government, to heroes for trying to save us from ObamaCare.<\/p>\n
