There are only a few times in our lives when we realize our greatest hopes or our worst fears.\u00a0 Unfortunately, tonight, we realized our worse fears.\u00a0 The United States can recover from another four years of Barack Obama as President.\u00a0 We have overcome more difficult things in the past.\u00a0 But the more serious question is whether we can overcome being stupid enough to re-elect him?\u00a0<\/p>\n
Obviously, my hope for a Romney victory, perhaps a landslide, was just plain wrong.\u00a0 It turns out all those questionable political polls got it pretty right.\u00a0 This was very close, perhaps the closest in history, but Democrats did get their people to the polls and they carried the day.\u00a0 I did point out that if Democratic turnout was the same in 2012 as it was in 2008 that Barack Obama would win.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t think they could do that, but they did.\u00a0 Republicans, on the other hand, did not turn out.\u00a0 I didn’t predict that either.<\/p>\n
All is not lost.\u00a0 Barack Obama limps into his second term a deeply wounded President.\u00a0 It is one thing to lose a close election for an open position.\u00a0 It is quite another to win re-election by the barest of margins.\u00a0\u00a0A lot of Presidents had serious problems during their second term in office.\u00a0 Ronald Reagan had Iran-Contra.\u00a0 Bill Clinton had Monica Lewinsky.\u00a0 George W. Bush had Hurricane Katrina.\u00a0 History tells us that Barack Obama will have a much more difficult second term than he can imagine.\u00a0 For one thing the media cover for Obama is likely to dissipate.\u00a0 They will just move on, because as of tonight, Obama is a lame duck President and he is already yesterday\u2019s news.\u00a0 The 2016 Presidential election starts tomorrow in both parties.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0Don\u2019t be shocked if the press starts reporting the truth about Libya and the failures of FEMA with regard to Hurricane Sandy.\u00a0 Don\u2019t be shocked to see some very serious investigations of Libya.\u00a0 There may even be bi-partisan support for a select committee to investigate this.\u00a0 Republicans still control the House and they are more than a little angry.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Mostly I am saddened and embarrassed.\u00a0 I can\u2019t believe that a majority of people voted to re-elect Barack Obama.\u00a0 This should not have been even close.\u00a0 President Obama is totally unqualified to be President and he has the worst record since Jimmy Carter.\u00a0 It is disgraceful that the Republican Party could not do better than this.\u00a0\u00a0 Barack Obama won re-election by launching a vicious campaign focused on the politics of personal destruction.\u00a0 Romney responded with a plan.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Barack Obama won the election but he didn\u2019t repeal the laws of gravity.\u00a0 His policies haven\u2019t worked in the past and they probably won\u2019t work in the future.\u00a0 He has never shown a hint of leadership ability before so we shouldn\u2019t expect to see it now.\u00a0 Remember that it is always darkest just before dawn.\u00a0 I doubt that any of us were really enthusiastic about a Romney Presidency.\u00a0 We just thought that anything would be an improvement over Obama.\u00a0 Mitt Romney was a far cry from the fundamental change we need.<\/p>\n
Perhaps, just perhaps, re-electing Obama was a necessary step in\u00a0bringing about the fundamental change that is desperatedly needed.\u00a0 Our government has been addicted to spending for a long time.\u00a0 Addicts rarely change until they finally hit rock bottom.\u00a0<\/p>\n
President Obama\u00a0got his four more years and he now owns this mess.\u00a0 Unless he changes course or his policies\u00a0start working miracles those people celebrating today may become an angry mob tomorrow.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0We will not be the first country to learn this\u00a0lesson the hard way.\u00a0<\/p>\n
