I went to the California Capital\u00a0Air Show with a friend today.\u00a0 It is always a fun event and it was particularly exciting to see airplanes like a Spitfire, a P51 and a P38 flying around.\u00a0 In addition, the Air Force Thunderbirds always put on a good show.<\/p>\n
But something was definitely missing.\u00a0 There was no Diet Coke.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0All the vendors had the same lousy\u00a0assortment of \u00a0beverages.\u00a0 There were several varieties of Snapple and some other stuff that looked rather unappealing, at least to me.\u00a0\u00a0I could not find a single vendor serving Diet Coke, or even Diet Pepsi, which though not Diet Coke,\u00a0will do in an emergency.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
I would have written this off as some kind of bizarre pro-Obama conspiracy, trying to force us to drink\u00a0healthier stuff, but then I remembered that Snapple supported\u00a0Rush Limbaugh, so there went that conspiracy.\u00a0\u00a0I finally decided this\u00a0was probably just another case of micro-management and incompetence.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This reminded me of Falstaff beer.\u00a0 \u00a0When I was stationed at Pleiku, AB, Vietnam,\u00a0there was always a vast over-supply of Falstaff beer.\u00a0 Perhaps it was just me, but it seemed like half of the beer on base was Falstaff.\u00a0 Yet I really didn’t know anyone who liked the stuff.\u00a0 So every month, it was the same.\u00a0 All the other beer would be consumed. (I mean come on, there weren’t a lot of fun activies at Pleiku AB in 1969.)\u00a0 Then, toward the end of the month, we would have to settle for Falstaff.\u00a0 Even the Falstaff cans seems to be inferior and I personally suspected rust.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I always suspected someone in the supply chain got a little something extra for ordering all the Falstaff.\u00a0 One thing is sure, it wasn’t the enlisted men on\u00a0base who made that brilliant decision.\u00a0\u00a0Then in dawned on me.\u00a0 Snapple.\u00a0 California Capital Air Show.\u00a0 Falstaff, Pleiku AB.\u00a0 \u00a0It was Deja Vu all over again.<\/p>\n
There were still a lot of nice planes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
