I always blamed President Ford, to some extent, about the loss of Vietnam.\u00a0 I was wrong.\u00a0 I just read a copy of the speech Gerald Ford gave to a joint session of congress on April 10, 1975.\u00a0 That was 35 hears ago today.\u00a0 President Ford practically begged congress to give him the authority to save South Vietnam.\u00a0 He was unsuccessful.\u00a0 Sadly, everything bad that he said would happen did happen.\u00a0 But the Democrats in congress did not care.\u00a0 They were sick of the war, so they simply looked the other way and tossed all the sacrifices made by our military on the scrap heap of history.\u00a0 It was a shameful abandonment of our allies.\u00a0 We are still paying a price today.\u00a0 If you want to know why Karzai in Afghanistan does not trust Obama to stay the course, just read this speech.\u00a0 It was a shameful moment in American history.<\/p>\n

I was wrong about President Ford.\u00a0 He made his case.\u00a0 He did the right thing.\u00a0 The only thing else he could have done was to defy congress and try to take action on his own.<\/p>\n

It is particularly chilling to read the comments about Cambodia.\u00a0 Approximately 2 million people were killed by the Khmer Rouge as a result of our failure to take action.<\/p>\n
