There were two men hiking in Alaska when they were confronted with an obviously angry Grizzly bear.\u00a0 One of the men immediately sat down and replaced his hiking boots with tennis shoes.\u00a0 The other guy laughed at him and said:\u00a0 \u201cwhat are you trying to do, out run a grizzly bear?\u201d\u00a0 The first guy said: \u201cno, I just need to out run you.\u201d<\/p>\n
In many ways that describes the situation in Iowa.\u00a0 Romney will probably win.\u00a0 Ron Paul and Rick Santorum will probably do ok, but neither can win the nomination.\u00a0 Michelle Bachmann looks like toast.\u00a0 That means it is down to Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich.\u00a0 Rick Perry doesn\u2019t need to beat Romney, Santorum or Paul.\u00a0 He just needs to beat Newt Gingrich, or at least come very close.\u00a0 If he comes in behind Bachmann, he will be the one eaten by the Iowa grizzly.\u00a0 That of course would not spare Bachmann, Paul or Santorum; it would just delay the funeral and probably give the nomination to Romney.<\/p>\n
Newt Gingrich still has a long shot at getting the nomination, but the odds are against him.\u00a0 His poll numbers are dropping faster than Kathy Griffith\u2019s clothes during the CNN\u2019s New Year\u2019s Eve broadcast.\u00a0 The problem with all those negative ads being run against him in Iowa is that most of them are obviously true.\u00a0 Gingrich has provided decades of ammunition.<\/p>\n
So, the only real issue tomorrow in Iowa is whether or not Perry can outrun the grizzly.<\/p>\n
