TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD

As soon as Donald Trump was elected President Liberal Democrats set about to destroy him.  They concocted a ridiculous theory that the Trump organization had colluded with Russia to steal the election.  (Democrats never can understand the reality that a lot of really smart people don’t want them).

There is, of course, no evidence of this because the Trump campaign didn’t need help from Russia or anyone else.  In addition, there is no evidence anything Russia did had an impact on the election.  So the Obama administration started dropping hints that they were investigating Russian interference with the election.  This was code word for investigating Trump.  Barack Obama even announced sanctions against Russia for interfering with the election, just before leaving office.  The New York Times wrote a scathing article about Trump making reference to obscure evidence gained from wiretaps on Trump officials.  Since there is no actual evidence, the existence of a major investigation was the evidence.  Why would all these people be investigating Trump if there was no probable cause?

Trump sends out a twitter saying Obama was wiretapping him and the main stream media goes crazy.  Trump is insane.  No one was investigating his campaign. Then, in the midst of their rage, a light bulb goes on.  Democrats have hoisted themselves on their own petard.  If there was an investigation of Trump, it was an abuse of power by the Obama administration.  If there was no investigation the main stream media has been lying to everyone.  At this point, I am not even sure which is worse: Having an investigation, with the obvious abuse of power, or not having an investigation, with the obvious irresponsible and indefensible rush to judgment.  There are no good answers here.

On the other hand, the worst allegation against Trump is that he falsely accused Obama of wiretapping him.  His answer to that is really easy: “I foolishly believed a story in the New York Times!”

Trump has stopped talking about this entirely, because he knows which ever way this turns out, he wins and his enemies lose.  The only way Democrats could pull this out of the fire would be to find solid evidence that the Trump campaign did collude with Russia.  That is very unlikely, because if this evidence exists it would have been leaked long ago.

Now what could make this worse?  Easy.  WikiLeaks just dumped 8,000 pages of CIA docs and among other things this appears to show how the CIA could hack people and make it look like the Russians did it.  Perfect. It is a sin to kill a Mocking Bird but it is an even bigger mistake to shoot at a Mocking Bird and miss.

  1. Just initiate an FoI for the FISA warrants that initiated the taps that appear to be the source of the damning transcripts Coons referred to and it’s a slam-dunk… Simples!

  2. I’ve always wondered why Putin would want Trump to be president, when he could do whatever he wants if Clinton were president. Just saying!
